Tree Work on the Central Isthmus

Central Auckland has some of the city's oldest gardens and biggest trees, on some of its smallest sections. The work is rarely about getting a tree down - it is about getting it down or cut back without touching the villa, the fence, the neighbour's garage or the car parked in the street.

Tight sections and narrow drives

Many central properties have no vehicle access to the back garden at all, or a single narrow drive shared with the house next door. Branches and wood are carried or lowered out to the chipper on the street and the path swept behind us. When we quote we look at how everything will get out, not just at the tree.

Keeping the big trees, making them fit

A large, old tree is often a big part of why a property looks the way it does, so removal is not always the answer. Deadwooding, thinning, a crown lift over the drive or a canopy reduction off the roof can keep it and deal with the problem - see tree pruning.

Hedges and clipped gardens

Clipped front hedges and topiary are part of the look of a lot of central streets. We trim and shape them and keep them on a schedule so they never get away - see hedge trimming.

Protected trees and council trees

Some trees on private property are listed as notable trees, and street trees on the berm belong to Auckland Council, which has to approve any work on them. If a tree you want removed or pruned could be either, check your address on the council's GeoMaps viewer or ask us when we quote - we can help with any permits or permissions the job needs.

Can you work on a section with no drive access to the back?

Yes. The tree is cut into pieces that can be carried or lowered out to the chipper on the street, and the path and street are cleaned up afterwards.

Can you prune the council tree outside my house?

Trees on the road berm belong to Auckland Council, so work on them needs council approval. Contact the council about a street tree; for trees on your own property, we can quote.

Which central suburbs do you cover?

Ponsonby, Herne Bay, Grey Lynn, Westmere, Point Chevalier, Kingsland, Mt Eden, Epsom, Remuera, Parnell, Newmarket, Mt Albert, Sandringham, Mt Roskill, One Tree Hill and Ellerslie. If your street is not on that list, ask - it is usually still a yes.
