Call A To Tree First For Crown Lifts in Auckland
Our team of qualified arborists provides professional crown lifting services to maintain healthy trees and promote safe access for people and vehicles.
Crown lifting is the process of removing the lower branches of a tree's crown to create more clearance space beneath the tree. This service is often needed to allow safe pedestrian and vehicle access, maintain a clear view of road signs, or to provide light to shaded areas. Our team carefully assesses the situation to determine the best approach for crown lifting to ensure the tree remains healthy and aesthetically pleasing.

Where a Crown Lift Helps
- Over the driveway and the road - branches that brush cars, catch a truck or hang over the footpath.
- Over the lawn and the garden - a low, heavy canopy that leaves the ground under it bare and damp.
- Off the house - low limbs resting on a roof, fence or deck.
- Views and sight lines - seeing out to the street, or the view under the tree rather than through it.
Lifting without spoiling the tree
The skill in a crown lift is knowing when to stop. Take off too much of a tree's lower canopy and it is left top-heavy, with too few leaves to feed itself and a trunk that suddenly catches the wind. So branches are taken back to the trunk or a main limb with clean cuts, the lift is kept in proportion to the height of the tree, and a big lift on a young tree is sometimes done over two visits rather than one.
Crown lift, reduction or thinning?
A crown lift raises the bottom of the canopy and leaves the height and spread alone. If the tree is too tall or too wide, that is a canopy reduction; if it is too dense, it is thinning, which is part of our tree pruning. Plenty of trees get a little of each.
