Felling, or Taking It Down in Sections
Where there is open ground and nothing in the way, a tree can be felled in one piece. Around most Auckland houses there is not - there is a roof, a fence, a glasshouse, the neighbour's garden - so the tree comes down from the top: the crown first, then the trunk in lengths, each piece cut to a size that can be lowered or dropped exactly where it will land safely.
Dead, dying and dangerous trees
A dead tree, or one with a split trunk or a lean that is getting worse, cannot be trusted to behave like a healthy one when it is cut, so it is planned differently. If a tree on your property looks unsafe, say so when you get in touch, and send a photo if you can.
Steep banks and awkward access
Plenty of Auckland's big trees sit on banks, cliff edges and down long, steep driveways. Difficult access changes how a job is done rather than whether it can be done - pieces may be roped down, winched out or carried to the chipper instead of dragged. It is one of the things we look at when we quote.
What happens to the tree
Branches go through our wood chippers on site and the wood is loaded onto our trucks. If you would like the chip left as mulch for the garden, or the trunk cut into rounds for firewood, tell us at the quote. If the stump is coming out too, it is usually cheapest done on the same visit - see stump grinding.
What a tree removal costs
There is no honest price for "a tree" without seeing it. Height matters, but so does what is underneath it, how close the trucks can get, whether it can be dropped or has to be lowered, and how much wood has to leave the site. We come and look, and the quote is free and covers the clean-up.
