Tree Work on Lifestyle Blocks and Rural Properties
Rural Rodney is a different job from a town section. The trees are bigger and there are more of them, the house is usually not the only thing to protect - there are fences, stock, sheds and water tanks - and the question at the end of the job is often not "take it all away" but "what do we keep".
Big trees and shelter belts
Pines, macrocarpa and gums planted as shelter decades ago are now some of the biggest trees on many blocks, overhanging the house, the drive or a boundary fence. Where there is room they can be felled; where there is not, they come down in sections. A line of shelter trees can be reduced or lifted to keep the shelter and lose the problem.
Keep the firewood and the chip
On a block there is usually somewhere for the wood to go. Trunks can be cut into rounds and stacked for firewood, and the branches chipped into a pile of woodchip mulch for gardens, tracks and around young trees. Or it all leaves on the trucks - your call.
Clearing overgrown ground
Gorse-choked gullies, wattle and self-sown pines along a fence line, old plantings that have taken over - see site clearance. Auckland Council notes that vegetation clearance in rural areas may need a resource consent, particularly for larger areas, as can vegetation near streams, the coast or in a Significant Ecological Area. Access
Long gravel drives, soft paddocks after rain and steep farm tracks all affect how the trucks and chippers get to a tree. We look at it at the quote, and plan the job around the ground rather than around the tree alone.
